To become an officer on the ship, the first step is that you must indicate an interest in doing so. Whether it's just for cosplay purposes, or if you want to help organize the ship, being an officer will have its perks.
Whether you joined the ship as a Crewman or Civilian, you can easily become an officer at any time by letting the Captain know of your interest. Then you will need to decide which Department you want to be in which will also determine what color uniform you wear:
Command (red), Science/Medical (teal), Security/Engineering/Operations (gold)
The next step would be to begin the process of obtaining your uniform, rank pips, communicator, gray undershirt, and Class B T-shirt.
To become involved in the ship and The Fleet, you will gradually be asked to know more and be more involved... At this stage, you will be asked to demonstrate a working knowledge of the other ships in The Fleet.
After passing the Ensign exam, you will then submit the Advancement Checklist to the Department Head, XO and CO for review (a formality).
